Blog 168 : Time in the Market >>>>>>>>>>>>> Timing the Market
Time in the Market is More Important than Timing the Market
One of the biggest mistakes we make is trying to predict the perfect time to enter or exit the market.
It sounds smart in theory, but in reality, it rarely works.
Wealth in markets is created not by timing, but by Staying Invested in the Right Businesses.
Why Timing the Market does not work:
Markets are unpredictable, Some of the best days come immediately after the worst days.
In fact, seven of the best 10 days in the last 25 years happened within just two weeks of the worst days.
Example:
The worst day of 2020, March 23, was followed by one of the best days shortly after, If you panic and exit during bad times, you risk missing the recovery and that one mistake can cost you heavily.
The Power of Staying Invested:
If you invested 10 lakhs and stayed invested for 25 years with around 14% CAGR, your investment could grow to nearly 3 crore, that is the power of compounding.
Your money doubles multiple times over the years, but this only works if you stay invested.
The Cost of Missing the Best Days:
- If you miss just the 5 best days, your returns drop by more than 40%
- Miss the 10 best days, you lose over 55% of returns
- Miss the 25 best days, your wealth reduces by more than 80%
- Miss the 50 best days, almost 95% of returns are gone
In fact, your 10 lakh investment may end up close to just 20 lakhs instead of crores.
That’s the difference between Patience and Panic.
Why Best Days Matter So Much:
Market returns are not evenly distributed, a large portion of returns comes from a few powerful days.
- Top 5 days contributed around 56% returns
- Top 10 days contributed over 111%
- Top 15 days contributed nearly 179%
- Top 20 days contributed over 261%
If you are not invested during these few days, you miss a major part of wealth creation.
The Real Lesson:
You don’t need to catch every move, you don’t need to predict highs and lows, you just need to stay in the game, because markets reward Patience, not perfection.
Time tests investors, not the market.
If you Stay Invested, Control Emotions, and Trust the Process, Compounding will do its Work.
